Chief Technician
The applicant must have/be:
• At least a Master of Science Degree in any discipline of laboratory sciences or equivalent, from a reputable institution recognized by the University of Zimbabwe.
• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Sciences or equivalent, from a reputable institution.
• A National Diploma in Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent, from an institution recognized by the University of Zimbabwe.
• Basic training in Financial Management and Animal Management would be an added advantage.
• 5 Ordinary Levels including English, Mathematics and a Science subject.
• Dynamic and have excellent communication skills.
A Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence. A minimum of 5 years working experience as a Senior/Chief Technician in a relevant environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate would be responsible for: Carrying out all the operations of Departmental laboratories.
Day-to-day Laboratory interactions with all academic and technical staff, The University Farm, external clients and other Departmental service-providers.
Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of all Departmental assets and equipment.
Ensuring that all infrastructure. assets and equipment including Departmental vehicles are in good working order.
Ensuring that all preparations for student practicals are done on time.
Supervision of technical non-academic staff.
Preparations of all field trips organized by Departmental staff.
Liaising with stakeholders in general.
Representing the Department in Technical Committees of the University.
Ensuring adherence to all safety provisions within Departmental premises.
