Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to apply for an Attachee position in Tax & Advisory Services at firms like BDO Zimbabwe?

You typically need a relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation from a recognized Zimbabwean university such as UZ, NUST, or MSU. Part-completion of professional qualifications like ACCA, ICAZ, or CIOT is highly advantageous and often preferred by employers.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Tax & Advisory Attachee?

You will assist with tax compliance work including preparing tax returns, conducting research on tax legislation, and supporting advisory projects for corporate clients. You will also shadow senior staff during client meetings and help compile documentation for SARS and ZIMRA submissions.

What is the work culture like for trainee accountants in Zimbabwean audit and advisory firms?

Expect a hierarchical but mentorship-driven environment where long hours during peak tax season are common, especially from June to December. Professionalism and punctuality are valued, and you must show initiative to stand out among peers competing for permanent roles.

What career progression can I expect after completing my attachment in Tax & Advisory?

Strong performers often receive offers for graduate trainee contracts leading to full audit or tax consultant roles. With ICAZ or ACCA qualification, you can progress to senior consultant, manager, and eventually partner track within five to ten years.

What benefits are typically offered to Attachees at large accounting firms in Zimbabwe?

Most firms provide a modest monthly stipend rather than a full salary, with some offering transport or meal allowances. Medical aid and pension benefits usually commence only upon conversion to permanent employment after qualification.

How should I apply and what do Zimbabwean employers look for in Attachee candidates?

Submit your CV and academic transcripts directly through firm websites or HR portals, and network actively at university career fairs and ICAZ events. Employers prioritize strong academic results, proficiency in Excel and accounting software, and demonstrated commitment to completing professional qualifications.
