Summary
The Consumer Protection Commission was established under the Consumer Protection Act Chapter 14:44 (No. 5 of 2019) which became Law on 10 December 2019. This Act repealed the Consumer Contract Act Chapter 8:03 and is administered by the Minister for Industry and Commerce. The Consumer Protection commission’s core function is to “protect consumers horn unconscionable, unreasonable, unjust or otherwise improper trade practices, as well as deceptive, misleading, unfair or fraudulent conduct.”
The Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) is now inviting suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the above-mentioned position that has risen in the Commission.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Supervising the Commission’s investigations officers
- Conducting investigations into consumer complaints through evidence collection, interviewing of interested parties and preparing reports
- Preparing investigation files suitable for use in courts of law, if necessary
- Assisting in carrying out mystery shopping into possible consumer infringements in Zimbabwe
- Assisting in educating and sensitizing consumers at the national level and preparing reports Assisting in profiling and preparing database for the Consumer Protection Commission
- Assisting in developing, reviewing and implementing guidelines, policies and procedures to enable the Department function effectively
- Assisting in the development, documentation and implementation of procedures and processes in compliance with information security
- Participating in hearing conferences and settlement agreements and assisting in drafting investigation and settlement reports
- Assisting in carrying out awareness creation to stakeholders and engagement at various forums
- Assisting in the development, review and implementation of policies and procedures to enable the department function effectively
- Participating in the Commission’s committees to enable the Commission to comply with relevant legislation
- Participating in the implementation of cooperation frameworks; and
- Identifying and detecting emerging risks, mitigating factors and opportunities
- Maintains the Commission’s database in relation to the Commission’s investigations
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Law, Police and Security Studies or business-related field from a recognized institution
- At least 5 years’ experience involving investigation of economic crimes or consumer infringements
- At least5 years’ experience at supervisory level
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Good Communication skills
- Analytical skills
- Good report writing
- Results oriented
