About
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest, privately-held, non-denominational, and politically independent German non-governmental organizations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in cooperation with local partner organizations, its task is to contribute to improved income and nutrition for the poorest rural populations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Zimbabwe almost continuously since 1980. Currently, the organization together with its partners has projects in 5 Provinces. Sector focus is on Food and Nutrition security including WASH, and when necessary Emergency response.
Welthungerhilfe is implementing a 12-month project with an overall objective to strengthen the resilience of 3 000 most vulnerable households to climate and economic shocks and their impacts on food security and livelihoods: The proposed project implemented in Gweru will be an integral part of WHHs overall urban portfolio building on and deepening our existing work in urban areas, and our relationship with WFP. For over 20 years, WHH has been implementing resilience building and food security projects in rural and urban areas which include but not limited to: Midlands, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces: Gweru was selected as one of the domains where WHH is currently implementing a n urban resilience building project in addition to a cash transfer project which is suitable for demonstrating the humanitarian development nexus approach.
Position summary
Welthungerhilfe seeks to recruit an ISAL’s Project Officer who will facilitate the formation of sustainable Internal Savings and Lending (ISAL) Groups / (Self Help Groups), Facilitation of self-help group concept including Internal Savings and Lending (ISALs), entrepreneurship training and technical skills training. Providing training (ISAL Strengthening and business trainings) to ISAL for financial literacy and how to be real entrepreneurs, Help the ISAL Groups develop their record keeping books and constitution for sustainability and be able to manage the group dynamics.
Job description
Develop and implement different ISAL strategies; Design and implement context specific and sustainable ISAL activities in Chegutu; Identify and capacitate existing groups on Income generating activities; Train new groups on ISALs and conducts community capacity building, such as training of committees; Cluster facilitators and individuals on the ISAL methodology, including constitution making, group dynamics and conflict resolution; Train ISAL groups in financial literacy and technical areas in support of their income generating activities; Facilitate and train ISAL groups in value addition and market linkages; Train ISAL individuals on small enterprises and business development services; Sensitizes ISAL groups towards behaviour change on decision making, power relations and other gender related issues affecting health and nutrition; Monitors ISAL groups and conducts verification and follow-ups and provides required technical assistance on selected value chain development; Ensure integration of industry best practices; Document lessons learned to inform WHH’s future programming; Monitors and keeps track of group savings activities and data; Participates in data collection, e.g administers questionnaires, collects statistics relevant to the project and analyses group data; Regularly analyse food security and markets situation and prevailing trends, and provide constructive feedback; Work with the GESI Officer to mainstream gender in ISAL activities and promote equality, women empowerment, and male participation; Work with ISAL groups and assist them to save towards predetermined objectives; Promote use of mobile money systems for conducting business transactions and saving; Facilitates learning visits and discussions between ISAL groups for cross fertilization of ideas and sharing of experiences; Provide content for donor and internal reporting; Represent WHH at local level coordination meetings.
Qualifications
Should have a University degree level qualification, or equivalent, in Social Sciences; Development work, Business administration or related field; Must have at least 3 years’ experience of work in the NGO sector; Experienced, efficient and organized in online and remote work; Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, and ability to learn new technologies and software quickly; She / he must have extensive experience in the supervision of staff and a good understanding of social issues affecting vulnerable communities and women and livelihoods of the general grassroots; High level of numeracy, budgeting, reporting, review and analysis; Good IT, communication skills (written and verbal) and experience writing reports and proposal development; Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills with ability to understand issues, translating them into simple, workable action plans.
