Reports To: Chief Technician
Station: Waterfalls Incubation Centre
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor machinery used in the manufacturing process, including pulpers, sheet formers, and converting equipment. Set up machines for different paper products, adjusting settings for weight, thickness, and quality specifications.
- Prepare raw materials, such as recycled fiber, pulp, and additives, ensuring they meet quality standards before entering production. Manage inventory and handle materials to ensure proper flow during the manufacturing process.
- Safely operate toilet paper, cardboard box and paper napkin machines in accordance with operational procedures and safety protocols.
- Continuously monitor the production process, observing machine operations to ensure consistent product quality and adherence to production schedules. Record production data, including output quantities, machine performance, and quality control metrics.
- Conduct inspections of finished products to ensure compliance with specifications for weight, texture, thickness, and overall quality. Identify defects, inconsistencies, or issues in production and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical problems or process issues, performing routine repairs and adjustments as needed. Conduct preventive maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate records of production runs, machine settings, maintenance activities, and quality control results. Report any significant incidents or production issues to supervisors promptly.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately and maintain cleanliness in the production area.
- Work closely with other technicians, quality control personnel, and production staff to optimize processes and resolve challenges.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality. Offer suggestions for process improvements or new technologies that could enhance production capabilities.
- Ensure manufacturing processes adhere to environmental regulations concerning waste disposal and emissions. Contribute to sustainable practices, such as recycling and energy conservation, within the production facility.
- Conduct training on new technologies and facilitate practical tests. Assist in training new employees on machinery operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Supervise Technical Assistant.
Requirements
- Technician Diploma/ NC/ HND or Equivalent in Paper/Wood Technology.
- At least one (1) year of post-qualification experience in the relevant field.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining various paper/wood manufacturing equipment.
- Strong focus on quality and adherence to specifications.
- Ability to diagnose production and machinery issues effectively.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in a manufacturing setting.
- Effective communication for collaboration with team members and reporting to supervisors.
