The Child Protection and Advocacy Intern will play a key role in integrating Child Protection and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) across all sectors and programs at national level, working closely with Area Programs and thematic teams to ensure effective collaboration. Reporting to the Advocacy and Safeguarding Coordinator the incumbent will support Area Programs in implementing initiatives on child protection, safeguarding, GESI, and advocacy, while also facilitating stakeholder engagement at both national and district levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement meetings with stakeholders, coalitions, networks and line ministries.
  • Support Area Programs to roll out national advocacy campaigns (e.g., school meals, nutrition, child protection) during district commemorations and dialogues.
  • Coach child advocates to safely participate in policy engagements and community scorecard processes.
  • Develop and package advocacy briefs, talking points and monthly/quarterly progress reports.
  • Conduct safeguarding compliance checks for child-related activities (events, travel, media/content creation).
  • Support Area Programs to mainstream CP standards: safe participation protocols, grievance/feedback mechanisms, and incident referral awareness.
  • Conduct GESI assessments with AP teams and community groups; facilitate action planning.
  • Deliver capacity-building sessions for staff, child clubs, and stakeholders on gender, disability, and inclusion.
  • Document community success stories (including children with disabilities and other vulnerable groups).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or any social sciences related degree.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Child Protection, Advocacy & GESI programming.
  • Basic knowledge of the Case management system.
  • Demonstrate understanding of gender-based violence and protection issues.
  • High level computer literacy including office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Good interpersonal verbal communication skills.
