The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the tobacco contract farming programme, providing support to farmers throughout all stages of production and ensuring sustainable tobacco production practices. The position is based out of Harare.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and identify potential farmers for tobacco contracting.
- Oversee the recruitment and selection of farmers into the company’s tobacco contract growing scheme.
- Monitor and offer agronomic advice to contracted tobacco growers.
- Monitor and compile crop assessment reports on the progress of contracted farmers.
- Coordinate and supervise the activities of the Field Officer allocated.
- Follow up and ensure contracted farmers deliver tobacco to the company’s floor.
- Conduct periodic production risk assessments and crop forecasting to ensure target volumes are achieved.
- Ensure recovery of loans extended to contracted farmers in the allocated farming area.
- Actively enforce labour standards and ensure the prevention of child labour amongst contracted farmers.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of sustainable tobacco production practices.
- Advanced computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of national tobacco regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical abilities with strong report-writing skills.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with stakeholders.
- Familiarity with performance management systems and disciplinary procedures.
- Conversant with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Minimum of 5 “O” Levels.
- Degree in Agriculture or related field, preferably with a specialization in tobacco production.
- At least 3 years’ proven experience as a Field officer or Area Manager.
- Clean Class 4 Drivers’ Licence.
- Knowledge of the operations of the tobacco industry is a distinct advantage.
