The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing, grading, processing and quality control of tobacco leaf product. The role ensures that all leaf operations adhere to purchasing volume requirements, customer quality standards, delivery timelines, and cost efficiency targets, while effectively managing personnel and resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership and supervision of the buying, processing, and shipping teams, including the coordination of training programs.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate all tobacco leaf operations, from purchasing and processing through to shipping of the final product.
- Monitor tobacco leaf quality at all stages of purchasing, processing, and storage to ensure compliance with established standards, correct blending percentages, and grading specifications.
- Enforce quality assurance standards and departmental operating procedures at all times.
- Ensure comprehensive tobacco leaf quality reports and accurate records are maintained for purchasing, processing, and shipping activities.
- Monitor staff performance, enforce discipline, and promote ethical practices within the department.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of tobacco leaf quality and TIMB grading system
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and quality orientation
- Problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work under pressure during peak seasons
- Conversant with ISO 9001:2015 QMS
- Minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level passes.
- Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in Agriculture or a related field, will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ managerial experience in tobacco leaf purchasing and processing.
