Role Overview

 

 

• We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to join our Transformation team at First Capital Bank. Based in Blantyre and reporting to the Group Head of Transformation, the ideal candidate will work on designing and developing BI solutions that provide insights to shape the bank’s strategic and operational initiatives.

• The Junior BI Developer will work closely with stakeholders across the organization (Compliance, Risk, Finance, Business Segments) to gather requirements, develop data models, and create dashboards that enhance decision-making processes.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

• Design and develop BI solutions for reporting and analytics.

• Build accurate data models and support ETL processes.

• Collaborate with business units to understand objectives and deliver insight-driven BI outputs.

• Develop interactive dashboards to present KPIs and other insights.

• Monitor, optimize, and secure BI systems.

• Prepare documentation for BI processes and models.

• Train end-users and ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements.

 

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:

 

 

• Understanding of financial statements, ratios, and risk principles.

• Ability to design conceptual/logical data models; familiarity with DWH and ETL.

• Knowledge of SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or NoSQL databases.

• Proficiency in Python or R.

• Experience with data analysis tools (pandas, NumPy) and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib).

• Exposure to ML models (classification, regression, clustering, forecasting), feature engineering, evaluation, hyperparameter tuning; use of scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.

• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and cloud-based data solutions.

• Strong quantitative and analytical abilities.

• Ability to interpret complex data and produce actionable insights.

• Skilled in diagnosing issues, scenario analysis, and sensitivity testing.

• High accuracy in data validation and reconciliation.

• Collaborative and able to work across technical and non-technical teams.

• Team-oriented, adaptable, and open to feedback.

• Comfortable in fast-paced environments; strong communication skills.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

 

• Degree in data science, statistics or computer science

• Experience in business intelligence development in the banking sector can be advantageous.
