VACANCY
POST : LEGAL OFFICER/SENIOR/PRINCIPAL (4 POSITIONS)
GRADE : 6/7/8
LOCATION : TOWN HOUSE
DEPARTMENT : TOWN CLERK SECRETARY
REPORTING TO: CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the above vacant positions.
KEY RESULT AREAS AND DUTIES
Drafts subsidiary legislation and amendments thereto.
Prepares legal opinions and memoranda to the Council.
Prepares Council contracts.
Provides general legal advice to Council and its departments on all matters falling
within the purview of Council.
Represents Council in legal proceedings.
Liaises with Council’s External Lawyers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements: –
Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree (LLBS)
Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner
At least one year experience
Four (4) years of post qualification experience in the following areas will be a distinct
advantage:
a) Legislative drafting
b) Contract law including IT contract
c) Conveyancing
KEY COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of Local Government Acts, policies, Statutory instruments that govern City
Council activities
Ability to make timely decisions when under pressure or under tight deadlines
Excellent research and writing skills are essential
A team player who promotes positive and productive team working
