POSITION : HEAD-ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH (1POSITION)
GRADE : 4
LOCATION : ROWAN MARTIN BUILDING
REPORTS TO : DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES
JOB PURPOSE
The position exists to ensure coordinate the formulation and implementation of policies applicable to matters of environmental health and hygiene in the City of Harare for effective disease monitoring, control and upholding of health standards.
KEY RESULT AREAS
➢ Responsible for the management of all aspects of City of Harare’s environmental health portfolio.
➢ Designing, recommending and implementing strategies and policies necessary for elimination of all forms of environmental pollution that endanger public health.
➢ Prevention and control of diseases outbreaks
➢ Monitoring and control of potable water and food supplies.
➢ Ensures that all licensed premises comply with Municipal By-Laws before licences are issued and ensures regular inspections of such premises for compliance purposes.
➢ Management of environmental public health education requirements of the city.
➢ Provides technical advice to Council on environmental health issues.
➢ Advises the city on the implementation and/or review of public health By-Laws.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
➢ A Degree in Environmental health from a recognized institution
➢ A post graduate Diploma in Environment health a must
➢ Registered with Health Professional Council of Zimbabwe
➢ Higher post graduate qualifications like an MSc in Environmental Health and MPH is a requirement
➢ 7 years relevant working experience is a must
➢ At least 5 years relevant experience at senior level in a multifaceted health environment
➢ Experience in a local government environment a distinct advantage
➢ Computer literacy in basic packages
➢ Clean class 4 drivers’ licence a must
KEY COMPETENCIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
➢ Good oral and written communication skills a must
➢ Computer literacy in basic package
➢ Full knowledge of Environmental Health Act and Relevant legislation.
➢ Strong business appreciation and analytical skills.
➢ Integrity and ability to work with minimum supervision
➢ Self-motivated and result oriented.
