ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (EHO) – GRADE 8
Reporting to the Housing and Community Services Officer
Job Summary
The EHO is responsible for promoting and safeguarding Public Health through the implementation and enforcement of environmental health policies and regulations as well as ensuring compliance with health standards in the community.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
* 5 O levels including English and Mathematics obtained in one sitting
* A degree in Environmental Health, Public Health or equivalent
* A Masters’ degree in Environmental Health or Public Health is a distinct advantage
* Must be registered under Environmental Health Practitioner’s Council of Zimbabwe
* A valid practising certificate – to be attached on application
* No criminal record – Police clearance must be attached on application
* At least 5 years’ experience in a similar work environment in the Public Sector
* At least 35 years of age
* A Clean Class 4 driver’s licence
* Be a Zimbabwean citizen
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Coordinates and supervises the implementation of environmental health activities in the area of jurisdiction
* Develops strategies to prevent and manage diseases in the area of jurisdiction
* Inspects premises for licencing and registration certificates issuance
* Examines and approves building plans
* Collaborates with other departments to design infrastructure that prevents environmental degradation
* Identifies and proposes areas for environmental health policy reviews and recommends for adoption
* Compiles and submits progress reports to the Housing and Community Services Officer
* Supervises subordinates and students on attachment
* Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor
