VACANCY
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of DIESEL PLANT FITTER (Grade 9) responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered equipment and other council fleet.
The incumbent will be reporting to the District Engineer. A highly motivated and mature person is needed for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A national certificate or diploma in diesel plant fitting or equivalent
-
Class 1 Journeyperson card or equivalent
-
At least 3 years experience in diesel powered equipment and vehicles
-
Sound knowledge of diesel engine components, undercarriage, transmission, and drive line systems

Strong decision making and technical skills
-
Clean Class 4 drivers licence
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Installing diesel engines, generators and other equipment on site.

Dismantling, repairing and reassembling engines, transmissions and other components
-
Adhering to safety procedures and standards
-
Performing routine maintenance, tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune ups
-
Diagnosing and repairing faults, including engine overhauls, cylinder head repairs, and fuel systems repairs.

Identifying and resolving complex problems using specialised tools and equipment.

Conducting tests to ensure road maintenance and equipment, trucks and and light/small vehicles are functioning correctly and efficiently.
