Key Responsibilities

 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient functioning, maintenance, and calibration of plant instrumentation and control systems, ensuring operational reliability and compliance with technical and safety standards.

 

 

DUTIES 

 

 

  • Conducting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all plant instrumentation and control systems in accordance with the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Participating in the design, execution, and management of engineering projects under the direction of the Section Head.
  • Calibrating and maintaining equipment such as:
  • Volumetric meters
  • Pressure, level, flow, density, and temperature transmitters and switches
  • Preparing and reviewing bid specifications for instrumentation and control systems and participating in technical bid evaluations.
  • Ensuring equipment and systems comply with SHE standards, including ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety), and ISO 9001 (Quality Management).
  • Participating in internal and external audits, including SHE compliance assessments.
  • Supervising workshop assistant personnel and overseeing external contractors during equipment installations, upgrades, or maintenance projects.
  • Providing technical input into root cause analyses of system failures and proposing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Ensuring documentation and reporting of all maintenance activities in compliance with company procedures.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

 

 

  • A Technician Diploma in Instrumentation and Control or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years post-qualification experience in a similar role, ideally within the petroleum, process, or heavy industrial sector.
  • Clean Class 4 driver’s license.
  • Valid professional registration with a recognized engineering institution (e.g., ZIE, SAIEE, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
  • Solid working knowledge of:
  • Siemens PLCs
  • Distributed Automation Systems (DAS)
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Soft Starters
  • Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control systems
  • Basic programming of SCADA and DLC (Distributed Logic Controllers) systems
  • Familiarity with calibration standards and practices, including the use of calibration tools.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety standards and basic multi-disciplinary engineering systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills.
  • High degree of computer literacy, particularly in Computerised Maintenance Systems and technical reporting tools.
