The Maranatha Christian University (MCU) wishes to engage the services of top and highly motivated officials of the University to lay the foundations of a young Christian University that has serious ambitions to offer world-class research, teaching and learning to local and international students. Whilst the University is to be eventually offer residential courses, it intends in the short-to-medium blended with online instruction in a distance mode. The initial intent is to offer online instruction in a selected range of Programmes which have been approved by ZIMCHE. The ideal candidates therefore must:

THE UNIVERSITY

 

The vision of the University is to be a world class University renowned for its advancement of research and entrepreneurial education for personal development and socioeconomic transformation. The mission of the University is to promote world-class academic research, teaching and learning that would support students in achieving societal, national and global impact in the Fourth Industrial Revolution through action to target through problem-solving and solution-providing interventions.
To fulfill its vision and mission, the MCU wishes to fill the following key management positions:

DEAN OF DUTIES 

All the posts shall be offered through performance-based contracts initially of five years duration but subject to possible renewal at the discretion of the University’s Board of Governors (equivalent to Council).

Applicants are therefore invited from suitably qualified and motivated candidates to fill these vacancies.

All the positions report to the University’s Board of Governors through the Vice Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor himself/herself shall report directly to the University’s Board of Governors.

The Job

 

 

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of Studies is a vital cog in the University structure that is responsible for providing Student Advisory Services, overseeing the provision of Student Academic Support Services, and ensuring that all students receive the highest possible quality of academic and non-academic support from their admission to the University until they graduate and are ready to participate in the world of work. The Dean of Studies will be responsible for the management of all student records, information and data at University such as, admissions, academic information about courses, results, awards, provision of resources, available to students, such as, welfare and personal guidance, information about experience and conditions for students.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Manages the academic progress and progress of students
Oversees the provision of student support services
Ensures the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date student records
Coordinates academic advising and counselling
Ensures the provision of support for students with special needs
Manages the induction and orientation of students
Coordinates the provision of career guidance and support
Oversees the management of student welfare and personal guidance
Ensures the provision of student feedback
Coordinates the provision of resources for students
Ensures the provision of information about courses, results, awards, and other academic information
Ensures the provision of information about student experience and conditions throughout the University
Assists with maintaining Student Discipline and the upholding of good conduct
Being the point man for all official communications with the Government and other public bodies as well as being the office through which University internal circulars, schedules and other information are disseminated
Keeping and maintaining the University’s seal, mace and other symbols of the University’s authority
Eligibility criteria
A qualification of Ph.D. in a wide range of disciplines.
A Masters in Education and Guidance and Counselling will be an added advantage.
At least ten years’ experience in Higher Education management, five (5) years in a student advisory or student support role.
Experience in online and blended learning methodologies and course pedagogies.
A demonstrably high level of personal integrity.

Servicing the University’s Board of Governors, Senate and their sub-committees, and Council
Managing student admissions and registration
Maintaining all student academic performances leading to the award of University qualifications
Scheduling class lessons and venues for all University teaching on campus
Managing student scholarships and other awards, and otherwise ensuring that student resources that may be available to students are well managed
Interpreting the University’s Academic Regulations and advising on their implementation
Preparing and managing all University requirements for examinations and graduation, including all invigilation, records and results
Managing and maintaining all University Transcripts and supporting documentation and issuing of Academic Transcripts to students
Managing all student appeals and other matters related to student records
Providing information about courses, results, awards, and other academic information about University such as, admissions, academic information about courses, results, awards, provision of resources, available to students, such as, welfare and personal guidance, information about experience and conditions for students
