Job Summary

Bantwana Zimbabwe (BZ) seeks a consultant to train community cadre in the Sinovuyo Kids and Sinovuyo Teens evidence-based models; and provide the requisite follow-up and mentorship for successful cascade trainings to project beneficiaries.

BZ leads a consortium of local OVC partners Insiza Godlwayo AIDS Council (IGAC) and Jointed Hands Welfare Organization (JHWO) to achieve the aims of USAID’s Zingane-OVC project in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, and Midland’s provinces. As prime, BZ ensures a cost-efficient project management and guides delivery of comprehensive OVC prevention and response services to vulnerable children, adolescents, and youth (VCAY) 0-24 years at high risk of or living with HIV across seven project districts. BZ leads implementation in Bulawayo, Lupane, and Kwekwe districts; IGAC in Gwanda and Insiza; and JHWO in Bulilima and Gweru.

A. Project Objective Improve health, safety, education, and stability outcomes for OVC, adolescents, and youth affected and infected by HIV in Zimbabwe

B. Activity Description
The Zingane-OVC project seeks to implement the validated Sinovuyo Kids (for parents of children aged 2-9). The overall goal of this consultancy is to train and mentor Sinovuyo Facilitators to deliver the Sinovuyo Kids curricula. The objective of Sinovuyo Kids is to reduce the risk of child maltreatment and improve child behaviour in vulnerable families through helping parents develop the skills to establish positive relationships with children. Nurturing happy and supportive families is the main objective. The important goal of the programme is to increase positive parenting behaviour by:
• Increasing parenting knowledge, skill and sense of competence
• Improving positive parenting behaviour
• Improving parental supervision of children
• Decreasing inconsistent and harsh discipline
• Improving child behaviour and wellbeing
• Improving caregiver mental health and social support
• Improving knowledge and use of social services for intimate partner violence, family illness, and their families
• Improving engagement in school and early childhood learning
The core theme in Sinovuyo Kids is “Building a Home of Support for the caregiver and the Child(ren).” By helping parents build a home of support for themselves and their children, parents are helped to manage their children’s behaviour whilst promoting healthy parent-child relationships.

Duties And Responsibilities

The consultant will be expected to train, mentor, and certify 40 Sinovuyo facilitators in Bulawayo (6), Bulilima (4), Kwekwe (4), Gwanda (4), Gweru (6), Lupane (4), Insiza (6) and the project technical team (6). The specific activities to be carried out are as follows:
i. Identification of coaches, their training and mentorship.
ii. A refresher training on Sinovuyo Teens focusing on sessions that focus on preventing HIV and sexual violence
iii. Train facilitators on Sinovuyo kids’ curricula as per curriculum approved standards.
iv. Provide mentorship to the trained facilitators towards certification

Expected Outputs and Deliverables
i. At least 40 of Sinovuyo facilitators trained on Sinovuyo kid’s curricula
ii. 40 of facilitators mentored towards certification and certified
iii. A comprehensive report on the trainings with participants performance analysis and recommendation for further support needed by trained facilitators.

Qualifications And Experience

Qualifications, knowledge, and skills
i. Minimum of a graduate Diploma in Education, Development, Social sciences or equivalent
ii. Previous experience or demonstrated strong interest in coordination of Parenting interventions.
iii. Certified Sinovuyo kids’ trainer of trainers.
iv. Certified Sinovuyo coach and mentor.
v. Good facilitation and presentation skills.
vi. Strong interpersonal skills

Professional Experience
i. A minimum of two years consulting experience as team leader
ii. Good knowledge of child protection, gender, and inclusion issues
iii. Experience in delivering Sinovuyo trainings
