Secondary Book Press (Pvt) Ltd is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill in the full-time post of a Managing Editor. The incumbent will report to the Editor- in – Chief.
Duties And Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include:
• Plan and manage all daily publishing operations.
• Collaborate with Editor-in-Chief to determine publishing titles, dates, and other conditions.
• Coordinate publishing meetings.
• Plan and approve assignments for writers and editors.
• Assist in evaluating finalized copies for compliance with the company policies, style, and tone.
• Handle reader complaints and take responsibility for issues that may have arisen after publication.
• Delegate and assign tasks to the department’s staff members.
• Negotiate contracts with freelance writers, editors, proof-readers, and evaluators.
• Review and revise content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
• Compile and update style guides as required.
• Ensure Development Editors brief authors clearly and in line with approved concepts, work with and support author teams for the duration of the writing period making sure content is well written and submitted on time.
• Demonstrate effective project management of multiple titles/projects and ensure that all projects release on time and within budget.
• Manage the book-development process so that editors and authors are completing manuscripts by due dates.
• Monitor the internal editors assignment of royalty percentages to each author engaged depending on the author’s level of relevance, contributions, support, accuracy and articulate.
• Handle authors queries concerning royalties by forwarding them to the relevant departments like accounting for clarity
Qualifications And Experience
Requirements and qualifications
• A Degree in Education, Publishing Studies, Library Studies, Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commercials or related.
• At least 5 years working experience in a management position as a senior editor or publisher.
• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Microsoft Office is an added advantage.
• Possessing enough leadership skills to drive the Publishing team towards maximum productivity.
• Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations.
• Expert in managing time and completing the given tasks within the decided time frame.
• Excellent command of an indigenous and English language, with attention to detail, quality control and an ability to engage
with content on a detailed level.
• Communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing, to give clear instructions to the staff members.
• Ability to own and manage multiple, multi-level projects simultaneously to tight deadlines.
• Being versatile, flexible, and willing to work under pressure on tight deadlines.
