JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: CARPENTER X4 (FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
GRADE: 5
DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING SERVICES
REPORTING TO: MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above mentioned position which has become vacant in the Engineering Services Department.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A successful candidate should have the following qualifications and experience
- Class 1 Carpentry and Joinery Journeyman Card.
- National Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery is an added advantage.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience.
- A clean criminal record.
PERSONAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in carpentry.
- Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
- Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
- Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods.
- Honest, reliable and responsible.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work in teams.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing and installing wooden structures.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and sketches.
- Repairing and renovating wooden structures.
- Measuring, cutting and joining materials made of wood and wood substitutes.
- Fitting and installing trim, doors, stairs and hardware.
- Measuring, marking and arranging materials.
- Erecting and dismantling scaffolding
- Ensuring the accuracy of work by checking completed projects.
- Any other duties assigned.
