Overview of the role

The Information Manager will be responsible for overseeing the collection of programme data and entry into the MAG database, in order to provide operational information as required.

Responsibilities

  • Database and Operational Statistics Maintenance;
  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS) skills;
  • Be the focal point for MAG Zimbabwe operational information;
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the operations database through overseeing data inputting, reports and maps;
  • Ensure that any errors in data entry are minimised and missing data is pursued;
  • Ensure the coherent and accurate management of electronic and hard copy filing using MAG Zimbabwe systems and filing;
  • Prepare completion reports;
  • Enter data from CL teams ad prepare CL pre-survey report;
  • Updating daily progress of clearance tasks;
  • Provide performance statistics on operations for senior managers;
  • Provide ad hoc data analysis and reports as directed;
  • Provide training on information management and GIS to community liaison staff;
  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the archiving all MAG operational records / documentation.

Specific duties

Database management:

  • Assist the Country Director and Operations Manager in Carrying out analysis of operational data when required;
  • Assist in the overall delivery of data and information in an effective and efficient manner by working closely with Zimbabwe Mine Action Information Management Staff as well as reporting into the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA);
  • Prepare monthly reports for donors as well as internal and external reporting;
  • Maintain records of clearance conducted and ensure that data received from the field is validated, complete and accurate;
  • Conduct rigorous data analysis and develop operational maps and statistics.

ICT:

  • Provide IT assistance to both support staff and field staff;
  • Provide support assistance with network / printing issues;
  • Work with MAG’s HQ ICT team to ensure regular backups of data;
  • Ensure all software used across the organisation is correctly licensed ,conduct regular anti-virus cleanup and physical checks on all equipment.

This position is classed as support staff (Harare based) – but routine trips to the field will be required to conduct staff training etc.

Qualifications and experience

  • GIS Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related fields;
  • At least 5 years experience in the field of IM with NGOs;
  • Experience in using Arcgis and Googlearth for data collection and manipulation;
  • Understanding of computer maintenance and computer security;
  • Excellent understanding of information gathering and analysis issues;
  • Proven ability to problem solve in the area of data provision and analysis;
  • Knowledge of CL principles and how information is gathered and used;
  • Ability to write reports;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Good knowledge of GIS and IT and mapping programmes.
