Translation of Training Manual on Feminist Leadership in tackling Violence Against Women(Consultant)-IYWD 164 views

Purpose

The Institute for Young Women Development (IYWD) and Just Associates Southern Africa, who are jointly implementing a project titled “What Women Want: Building grassroots women’s collective power against gender based violence in Zimbabwe,” are seeking to engage the services of a consultant/s to translate a training manual on Feminist Leadership in tackling Violence Against Women (VAW) from English into Shona and Tonga. The translated manuals will be used by women community leaders as they engage other women, local leaders and other stakeholders as part of their journey on tackling VAW/G in 8 districts of Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central provinces.

Objectives

The What Women Want project is aimed at empowering women to build a strong and vibrant anti-Gender Based Violence (GBV) movement, where women, young and old, have a voice and are able to collectively challenge structural violence and manifestations of GBV. In line with UNTF Spotlight Initiative Outcome 6, the project intends to strengthen young and adult Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) and local leadership to safely and effectively design, implement and monitor their own programmes on prevention of Sexual and Gender Based Violence / Harmful Practices (SGBV/HP); Whilst creating space and conditions for women’s rights groups and grassroots activists to conduct tactical dialogues, develop shared strategies and mobilize collective local-to-global strategies and international solidarity actions; To advocate for Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE) and ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), including SGBV / HP, with relevant stakeholders at sub-national and national level; The project seeks to strengthen Zimbabwean women’s capacities and alliances to influence social norms and values on VAW for improved safety and control / access to economic resources in Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, and Manicaland; A key aspect of the project is a community-driven approach where women from the communities take ownership and lead the implementation of the project through training other women and local leaders on feminist movement building and transformative leadership using simplified and user-friendly manuals written in local languages, that is, Shona and Tonga.

Deliverables

An Expression of Interest detailing the methodology to be used to conduct the assignment, detailing specific timelines for each phase of the assignment and inputs required from IYWD and JASS-SNA; A translated manual in Shona and Tonga; A detailed presentation to IYWD and JASS-SNA on how the assignment was carried out, lessons learnt and recommendations thereof to IYWD and JASS-SNA.

Consultancy competencies, experience and skill requirements

IYWD and JASS-SNA are seeking a competent, committed, and skilled consultant / team. The following qualifications are required: Excellent communication and written skills in English language and Zimbabwean local languages, specifically Shona and Tonga; Extensive experience in translating written documents from English to local Zimbabwean languages. Consultant is required to provide a Listing of similar work done previously; Extensive experience in working with diverse groups including women, youth and feminist movements; Excellent interpersonal communication skills; Understanding of feminist methodologies is an added advantage.
