Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) is an autonomous parastatal under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. It is an internationally accredited examinations board. ZIMSEC is an examinations board responsible for assessment, evaluation and documentation of the academic readiness, learning progress, and skill acquisition of students at primary and secondary school levels in Zimbabwe. The Council is inviting suitably qualified and motivated persons for the following vacant positions that have arisen.
SUBJECT MANAGER – GEOGRAPHY
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the job is to develop and produce valid error free question papers and provide fair assessment of candidates’ performance
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Item writing
Commission item writers and set parameters for item writers
Provide guidance and advice to item writers on item writing
Ensure adherence to item writing rules to develop reliable and valid items
Supervise and manage the moderation of items
Question Paper Development
Compile question papers from valid moderated items
Proofread constructed draft question papers and submit for banking and typing
Supervise vetting and proofreading by vetters and proofreaders
Participate in panel proofreading
Marking
Construct marking team structures
Prepare script apportionment schedules
Supervise script selection
Supervise National coordination meetings
Appoint mark capturers and verifiers and activate them during marking
Monitor marking for adherence to set standards and the production of Principal Marking Supervisor’s report
Prepare grading tool kits and manage the awarding of grades to candidates’ work
Training of Examiners
Identify examiner training needs and submit to Human Resources
Select potential trainees and trainers
Supervise training and assessment of trainee examiners
Generate circulars on prescribed texts
Participate in the development of syllabuses
Attend to queries relating to subjects being managed
Participate in research and engage in intellectual discourse
Organize and secure resources required for subject management
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Diploma in Education/Post Graduate Diploma in Education
Degree in Geography/Education majoring in Geography
Relevant Masters Degree
At least five years experience teaching Geography at A Level
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES
Good analytical skills and solution-focused person
Ability to work well in a team
Emotionally intelligent
A proven and traceable success record.
Experience in working with private and sensitive information.
Strong computer skills and ability to use necessary data bases software such as SPSS, STATA, Conquest, MS Access, MS Excel.
Excellent multi-tasking skills and task management
Values Quality and Efficiency.
Sound knowledge of GIS
