JOB DESCRIPTION
Caritas Mutare is one of the Caritas located in the eastern part of Zimbabwe which operates under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Mutare. We do relief and development interventions in the diocese particularly the dry parts of the diocese in regions 3, 4 and 5. Recently we experienced the devastating disaster of Cyclone Idai which mostly and to a greater extent affected the eastern parts of Manicaland province thus Chimanimani, Chipinge and Buhera districts.
Caritas Managed to respond to the disaster with internal and external support in the line of immediate needs like temporal shelter, foods, NFIs, hygiene kits, blankets, clothes, to recovery where we gave them permanent shelter, construction of latrines, repaired and drilled new boreholes, established micro-irrigation schemes, constructed piped water schemes, protected springs and did DRR trainings to both district and local stakeholders.
Caritas Mutare has been roped in by CAFOD to strengthen its capacity to respond to emergencies and disasters through their capacity strengthening programme. This capacity strengthening, we feel, should start from the board right to the communities hence the need for our board to be trained so that they will be able to guide the organisation effectively.
Purpose of the Induction
- To ensure board members are appraised on the roles and functions of the board;
- To ensure an understanding of good corporate governance principle
Areas to be covered in the training
- What is a board;
- Roles, responsibilities and functions of the Board;
- Understanding good corporate governance principles;
- The Board – composition/structure;
- Composition of Committees and committee meetings;
- Capacity gaps of the board (for development of an action plan);
- Board Member’s term of office;
- Board procedure / how to conduct Board Meetings;
- Board Evaluation
Scope of work
- Design a 2-day training/facilitation guide;
- Come up with a training programme for the 2 days;
- Develop training materials;
- Develop a training methodology;
- Come up with a work plan for 1 year for the gaps identified.
The Training Strategy
- The facilitator to come up with sound training strategy (Present them here)
The consultant will be required to
Review programme documents such as:
- Caritas Mutare expired strategic document;
- Caritas Mutare Human Resources Manual;
- Caritas Mutare Finance Manual;
- Procurement procedure manual
Deliverables
It is expected that the consultant will produce and deliver:
- The training;
- Training report;
- Production of a 1 year action plan.
Required Competencies
It is essential that the consultants have:
- A strong training background, either from local, national, regional, or international nongovernmental organizations, or freelancers working in corporate governance;
- High level of education and professional background;
- More than 5 years experience doing similar consultancy work;
- Clean track record

Caritas Mutare will cover:
- Facilitator food and accommodation;
- Transport for the consultant
