Nzeve Deaf Centre (PVO 22/2005), based in Sakubva, Mutare is an organisation of deaf and hearing people working towards the Deaf community being valued in an inclusive society. Nzeve is based in Mutare but works throughout Manicaland.

Nzeve is looking for a creative education professional to work with school children and youth, parents and teachers of deaf. The job of Education Project Officer includes working closely with deaf people as colleagues, not just as beneficiaries, and requires a willingness to learn and be immersed in deaf culture. The Education Project Officer reports to the Head of Department. Sign language ability is essential.

Requirements

Education or related field qualification (Diploma or degree) and a good understanding of current Deaf education in Zimbabwe and worldwide and deaf issues; Minimum of 3 year working/ volunteering in education/education related institution; Excellent ability in Zimbabwe sign language essential; Experience of rolling out training programmes to community groups and youth; Experience of research and ability to analyse information; Familiar with the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities and the Sustainable Development Goals; Computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office software; Demonstrate creativity and innovative problem-solving ability; Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor tasks; Ability to work as a team member with minimum day-to-day oversight; Demonstrated ability to train adults and children; Strong interpersonal and oral presentation skills in English, Shona and sign language; High level ability in written English.

Responsibilities

The education officer will: Collaborate with MOPSE to build the capacity of Teachers of the Deaf through workshops and school visits; Administer educational support to the Resource Units for deaf children in Manicaland; Promote Zimbabwe Sign Language in collaboration with the Deaf community by planning and coordinating clubs and courses; Participate in project design, implementation, and development; Build the capacity of volunteer interpreters and deaf adults to teach life skills and sign language to deaf and hearing children and adults; Maintain all project documentation, monitoring and budgets; Troubleshoot project problems and identifies and implements creative solutions; The successful individual must demonstrate the highest degree of integrity throughout all activities; The individual will work closely with other staff and deaf community leaders.
