Most employers require a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Education, Human Resources, or a related field. Certifications in learning management systems (LMS), ITIL, or project management are highly valued. Practical experience with platforms like Moodle, SAP, or Microsoft 365 is often preferred over formal credentials.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Learning and Systems Coordinator?

Daily tasks include managing user accounts and content on learning platforms, troubleshooting technical issues for staff, coordinating training schedules, and generating reports on system usage and learning outcomes. You will also liaise between IT teams and end-users to ensure smooth platform operations. Documentation and maintaining standard operating procedures are essential ongoing duties.

How does local work culture in Zimbabwe affect this role?

Zimbabwean workplaces value respect for hierarchy and clear communication channels, so you should expect formal reporting structures and consultative decision-making. Reliability is crucial given intermittent connectivity challenges, so employers appreciate proactive problem-solving and backup planning. Building strong interpersonal relationships across departments is key to success in coordination roles.

What realistic career progression paths exist from this position in Zimbabwe?

With experience, you can advance to Learning and Development Manager, IT Systems Manager, or Operations Coordinator roles. Specializing in e-learning design or enterprise system administration opens doors to regional or remote international positions. Many professionals also transition into consultancy or freelance LMS implementation work across Southern Africa.

What benefits are typically included in contract positions with NGOs or international organizations in Zimbabwe?

Contract roles often include medical aid coverage, annual leave days proportional to contract length, and sometimes a 13th cheque or performance bonus. Pension or provident fund contributions vary by employer and contract duration. Always clarify these terms during negotiation, as benefits for contract staff differ significantly from permanent employees.

What do employers in Zimbabwe look for when hiring for this role, and how should I apply?

Employers prioritize demonstrated LMS administration experience, strong Excel and data analysis skills, and the ability to train non-technical users. Tailor your CV to highlight specific platforms you have managed and quantify your achievements where possible. Submit applications through official channels with a concise cover letter explaining your fit for systems coordination in a development or tourism context.
