The Assistant Harvesting Manager is responsible for ensuring harvesting standards are maintained, harvesting equipment and labour are efficiently utilized, and the mill receives an adequate and consistent supply of cane.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising daily harvesting operations.
  • Ensure harvesting activities are carried out according to approved harvesting standards and operating procedures.
  • Monitor field readiness and pre-harvesting activities to ensure fields are prepared for harvesting.
  • Ensure harvesting is conducted in a manner that minimizes cane losses and maximizes recoverable yield.
  • Ensure harvested cane is supplied to the Mill Plant in sufficient quantities to meet production requirements.
  • Monitor harvesting progress and ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and seasonal production targets.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to verify compliance with harvesting standards and quality requirements.
  • Supervise and support Harvesting Supervisors, Harvester Operators, Firefighters, Pressure Washers, and other harvesting personnel.
  • Ensure supervisors are positioned correctly and ready before commencement of daily operations.
  • Monitor the utilization, productivity, and availability of harvesters and related equipment.
  • Monitor, analyses, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure efficient utilization of labour, machinery, fuel, and other operational resources.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Farm Management, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in agricultural operations, harvesting operations, or a similar supervisory role.
  • Experience in mechanized harvesting operations and equipment management is an added advantage.
  • Experience in sugarcane farming and harvesting operations preferred.
