Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the overall repairs and maintenance of Council vehicles, equipment and plant.
• Sourcing vehicles, equipment and plant spare parts.
• Determine vehicle equipment and plant jobs for outsourcing.
• Supervise workshop staff.
• Determine and confirm roadworthiness of vehicles, equipment and plant before issue to user departments/ individuals.
• Advise Director of Engineering Services on need to add or replenish vehicle equipment and plant.
• Advise and maintain a clear vehicle equipment and plant servicing plan/ schedule.
• Ensure that fuelling and refuelling policies of Council, as reviewed from time to time, are adhered to without fail.
• Ensure that workshop expenses remain within budget.
• Compile monthly workshop reports for the Engineer.
• Ensure that the workshop layout and operation is in compliance with statutory requirements.
• Ensure compliance to organisation workplace Transport Policy.
• Liaise with insurers and other related institutions in cases where vehicles are involved in accidents.

Requirements

• 5 ‘O’ Levels including English Language and Mathematics.
• Journeyperson Class 1 Mechanic (general).
• Workshop experience (supervisory).
• Hands-on experience.
• Must possess a class 1 or 2 Driver’s licence.
• Must be honest and able to work within minimum supervision.
• Possession of a Diploma in Transport Management or other related discipline would be an added advantage.
