Background
A human rights organisation is seeking the services of a highly motivated Research Assistant to join a small team of high impact researchers for its Harare office. The ideal candidate is a researcher who understands the Zimbabwean human rights context and is eager to make an impact on the human rights research and advocacy in Zimbabwe. Multi-talented, highly collaborative, excellent writer and skilled communicator who must excel at targeted human rights research and advocacy activities. The Research Assistant will be charged with supporting the research team on human rights and transitional justice, human rights monitoring and documentation and any related tasks in the Research and Transitional Justice Programme. The Research Assistant must believe in all human rights for all people, in justice and accountability for all and willing to go an extra mile to ensure that the goals of the programme are achieved.

Overall Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Team Leader: Research and Transitional Justice, the Research Assistant support the Programme’s Research work, including desk and field research, human rights monitoring and policy monitoring. The Research Assistant will be expected to carry out intensive human rights policy research and analysis and will be expected to make presentations before various audiences. The Research Assistant to offer expert support in the design and implementation of high impact human rights and transitional justce projects, participate in all necessary capacity enhancement programmes for stakeholders and contribute to fundraising efforts to move the programme forward.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will be responsible for the following duties
Provide technical support in the design and implementation of high impact human rights and transitional justice projects; Contribute to the production of thoroughly researched analytical papers on human rights, transitional justice and conflict transformation; Contribute to the carrying out of intensive and extensive human rights policy analysis; Support the design appropriate interventions and recommendations for the human rights process in Zimbabwe; Support the convening and facilitation of regular stakeholder meetings which include training and dialogue on key human rights and transitional justice issues in Zimbabwe; Participate in domestic, regional and international human rights advocacy programmes; Participate in various activities on behalf of the organisation; Compile and dispatch various human rights reports within agreed timeframes; Keep a tag on and design appropriate responses to critical human rights developments in the country; Attend to any other duties incidental to the attainment of project goals

Period of Engagement
The Research Assistant will be engaged for 12 months with possibility for extension according to availability of funds, good delivery and project needs.

Profile of the Research Assistant
To be considered for this role you must:
Passionate about the promotion and protection of human rights in general and human rights specifically; Have a strong record of handling and delivering effectively in a similar capacity; Have strong interpersonal skills and experience of working with a range of stakeholders from the human rights community, partners and community based groups; Have the gravitas and credibility to engage with target communities and audiences; Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision

Qualifications
The candidate must have the following experience and qualifications:
Must possess a law / or social sciences degree from a reputable institution; At least five (3) years of working experience in the human rights sector; Possess skills in human rights research, monitoring and policy analysis; Speak and write fluently in English; Experience with funding partners and international organizations would be an added advantage; Ability to speak at least one Zimbabwean vernacular language is an added advantage
