Key Responsibilities
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, control equipment, and other electrical systems in accordance with relevant codes and safety regulations.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical malfunctions and perform corrective actions efficiently.
- Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment (e.g., streetlights, traffic lights, Municipal buildings, water pumps, sewage treatment plants, etc.).
- Reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Ensuring compliance with all national and local electrical codes, safety standards, and Council policies.
- Operating and maintaining a variety of electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Maintaining accurate records of all electrical work performed, including installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Responding to emergency call-outs for electrical issues outside of regular working hours as required.
- Collaborating with other departments and external contractors on electrical projects.
- Advising on the procurement of electrical materials and equipment.
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations and promoting a safe working environment.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisors.
Requirements
- Qualified Class 1 Artisan, who must have served a 4-year Apprenticeship in Electrical Power Engineering or Trade-Tested Artisans’ Class 1.
- Certificate of completion of contract of Apprenticeship in Electrical Power.
- Possession of a National Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering is an added advantage.
- At least two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills.
- Should be highly knowledgeable and analytic.
- Ability to work under pressure and outside normal working hours.
- Honest, reliable and responsible.
