Short Term Consultancy For Transitioning Of Early Learners To Formal Education (TELFE) Project: Nhaka Foundation

Nhaka Foundation is a Zimbabwe-based non-governmental organization which has developed and implemented a series of interventions designed to bridge the gap between the government’s capabilities and policies mandating the requirement for early childhood development (ECD) programming in primary schools and its ability to fully realize the implementation of such programs.

Along with its partners, Nhaka Foundation provides access to education, basic health care and daily sustenance for the orphaned and vulnerable children in the communities it serves. It provides aid and support to ensure the creation of a physical environment conducive to learning, growth and the optimal development of all children.

Objectives of the consultancy
The importance of investing in early childhood development (ECD) for human health, wellbeing and productivity has been well recognised. Research suggests that the presence of promotive factors in the care environment can make a difference in the life of a child. Enhancing quality early childhood development interventions, particularly children from disadvantaged communities, can prevent or offset potential negative impacts on a child’s cognitive and social development.

Nhaka Foundation is seeking a qualified and competent consultant to carry out an assessment of the challenges and gaps faced by children when they transition from early childhood development into primary school. The consultancy is also aimed at identifying areas that can support the reduction of dropout rates for children attending primary school education particularly in the early formative years of grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3 otherwise known in Zimbabwe as the Infant Education.

Profile/ consultancy requirements
The service provider shall at least: Have a Master’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, Social Sciences, Human Resource Development or related field; The service provider shall have demonstrated experience and knowledge in research and human resource audits; Understanding and knowledge of the broader Zimbabwean early childhood development situation will be an added advantage; The service provider shall have at least 10 years relevant work experience.
