Emthonjeni Women’s Forum (EWF) is an organisation whose thrust is women’s rights, focusing more on gender based violence, socio economic rights and women’s participation in developmental issues in their communities. This is done through building the capacity of women and information dissemination on women’s rights and counselling.  EWF is currently operating in Matabeleland North and South.

Project description
Despite statutory instruments protecting women, women in Insiza district are still vulnerable to gender based violence and awareness raising has to be increased, targeting not only women but traditional and religious leaders as custodians of culture, as well as men as perpetrators of GBV. The existence of strong patriarchal practices, lack of information on both rights holders and traditional leaders has led to rights holders’ failure to access justice and traditional leaders hindering the access to justice. This has resulted in continued suffering of victims. To address this problem, EWF is empowering communities in Insiza, with a special focus on enabling women and young women to take action against GBV whilst men are capacitated to become agents of change against GBV leading to a community that is intolerant to GBV. The project focuses on awareness raising, advocacy, capacity building of ordinary women, counselling survivors as well as perpetrators of GBV. The project is being implemented in 10 wards of Insiza targeting women as primary targets and men and duty bearers as secondary targets.

The desired project outcomes are: Empowered women and girls taking action to fight GBV and practice of harmful practices at community level; Duty bearers taking action to prevent GBV and to support and protect affected women and girls; Affected women and girls seeking support from partners and communities to access physical protection or safety, justice, legal protection and other compensation.

The purpose of the consultant is to document the project through digital story telling.

Role and responsibility of Consultant
The consultant will: Document the project through digital storytelling to: capture lessons learnt during the project; capture most significant change stories in the communities and document best practices.

Deliverables expected outputs: Record  & photograph 3 women awareness raising meetings; Record & photograph 3 dialogues with religious and traditional leaders; Record & photograph 3 dialogues on harmful cultural practices; Record & photograph 3 dialogues with religious and traditional leaders; Record & photograph 1 Male Champions Training and Formulation of male Champions Charter; Record & photograph 4 most significant change stories from the communities; Record the 16 days of activism commemoration; A detailed consolidated 20 minutes DVD on all the recordings profiling lessons learnt best practices and most significant change stories

The assignment will be conducted from September to December 2016 with the end product required on 16 December 2016

Technical direction
EWF Director or representative will provide technical direction during the performance of this handbook production

Required skills and competencies
Good understanding of development work projects; Strong ability to work within the NGOs systems; More than 5 years’ experience in gender, women’s rights, media and the law; Extensive experience in digital story telling; Advanced qualification in digital filming; Traceable references and samples of like work done
