Tongaat Hulett has a proud 126-year history and a strong socio-economic legacy in KwaZulu-Natal province, in
South Africa, and into sub-Saharan Africa. The company’s current priority is to improve the overall business
performance in the medium to longer term and our objectives are to operate strategically, sustainably, efficiently, and
profitably. Tongaat Huletts’ focus is on re-energising assets that will be cash-generative and exploring new customer
segments. Going forward the company is focussed on leveraging its value chain, and creating a platform for longterm growth, while maintaining strong relationships with its key stakeholders.
The company is an agriculture and agri-processing business operation with two Sugar Manufacturing Mills in
Zimbabwe, situated at Triangle and Hippo Valley Estates. The Sugar Mills in Zimbabwe have a combined milling
capacity of more than 4,8 million tons of sugar cane annually and produce over 640 000 tons of sugar. Refining
capacity is 140 000 tons per annum. The company has an ethanol plant with a capacity to produce 40 million litres of
fuel grade ethanol.
The company operates an on-site modern Industrial Training Centre at as part of its technical skills development
initiative, which includes the training of Apprentices.
Opportunities have arisen for recently qualified and interested High School graduates to train in the following
Apprenticeship trades commencing in January 2020.
Auto Electrical Boiler making
Diesel Plant Fitting
Fitting and Machining
Motor Cycle Mechanics
Motor Mechanics Refrigeration
The Minimum Requirements for Apprenticeship Training are:
• Five “O” Level subjects’ passes at grade C, or better to include English, Mathematics and Science. Passes
in technical subjects such as Carpentry, Metalwork and Technical Graphics will be an added advantage.
• “A” Level passes in Mathematics and Physics will be a requirement for candidates aspiring for the
Instruments Technician trade.
• Applicants for Motor Mechanics, Diesel Plant Fitting, and Auto-Electrical and Motor Cycle Mechanics
trades will require a clean class four driver’s licence or a valid learner’s licence.
• A Clearance letter from the Registrar of Apprenticeship Training.
• Applicants should be between 16 and 23 years of age on the date of application.
